African American Spirituals are the FIRST of  American Music, and the precursor to Gospel, Blues, and many other American Music forms we love today.  The "Concert Spiritual"  is an  ART SONG within the classical community, and should be performed with the highest level of research, study, style and authenticity  as all other Song Repertoire.   This Masterclass aims to provide a Real-Time Resource for performers and teachers, giving guidance on interpretation and style, and a bibliography of resources for preparing current and future spiritual repertoire performances.
